Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about therapy at Sunrise Courage Counseling

Getting Started

Therapy can benefit anyone who wants support navigating life's challenges — whether you're dealing with anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, or simply feeling stuck. If you're curious about therapy, that curiosity itself is often a good sign. We offer a free initial consultation so you can ask questions and see if we're a good fit before committing.

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, your goals, and any concerns you have. It's also an opportunity for you to ask questions about my approach and how I work. There's no pressure — we go at your pace.

The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and the challenges you're working through. Some people find meaningful progress in 8–12 sessions; others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly check in on your progress and adjust our approach together.

Yes! I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so you can ask questions, share what you're looking for, and decide if Sunrise Courage Counseling feels like the right fit. Call or text 307-575-1326 to schedule.

Therapy Approaches

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help people heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. It uses bilateral stimulation — such as guided eye movements — to help the brain process and integrate difficult memories so they no longer feel overwhelming. EMDR is recognized by the American Psychological Association and the World Health Organization as an effective treatment for PTSD and trauma.

Animal-Assisted Play Therapy (AAPT) integrates the therapeutic presence of animals — often dogs — into play therapy sessions. Animals provide a calming, non-judgmental presence that can help children and adults feel safer, more open, and more engaged in the therapeutic process. I am a member of the International Association for Animal-Assisted Play Therapy (IAAPT) and trained in this specialized approach.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented approach that helps you identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. By understanding the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and actions, you can develop healthier ways of responding to life's challenges. CBT is highly effective for anxiety, depression, and a wide range of other concerns.

Yes. I am trained in Experiential Play Therapy and Animal-Assisted Play Therapy, which are particularly well-suited for children. Play is a child's natural language, and these approaches allow children to express and process their experiences in a safe, developmentally appropriate way.

Fees & Insurance

Yes, I am in network with certain insurance plans. Please contact me directly to find out if your insurance is accepted. If I am not in network with your plan, I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

Session fees vary depending on the type and length of service. Please contact me directly for current fee information. I also offer CareCredit financing to help make therapy more accessible — visit the Financing page to learn more.

Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your care before your first session. This estimate outlines the anticipated fees so there are no unexpected charges. Visit the Good Faith Estimate page for full details, or ask me directly at your consultation.

I understand that cost can be a barrier to care. Please reach out to discuss your situation — I'm happy to talk through options to help make therapy accessible for you.
